MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) – A Lawrence, Mass., man took the top prize at the 28th Great Rotary Fishing Derby, landing a 3.09-pound tagged trout.
Roland Janelle’s grand prize: two ATVs and a trailer. He was fishing Sunday near Governor’s Island on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Runner-up and winner of one ATV and trailer was Mark Smart of Sandwich, who reeled in a 2.55-pound tagged rainbow trout on Saturday.
Derek St. Cyr of Belmont was third with a 1.87-pound rainbow he landed Saturday. He won a canoe.
The largest fish landed in the derby, which drew about 5,000 ice fishermen, turned out to be a state record cusk that weighed in at 11.87 pounds and was caught Sunday by John Thurston of Wolfeboro Falls.
More than $55,000 in prizes were awarded.
Over the years, the derby has raised more than $1.2 million for the Meredith Rotary Club’s charitable activities.
