FARMINGTON – Norman Wilfred Ouellette, 88, a longtime resident of Jay, died Sunday, Feb. 11, at Sandy River Nursing Home.
He was born on July 30, 1918, to Laura (Groleau) and John Ouellette and grew up in Chisholm. He graduated from Jay High School; served in the Civilian Conservation Corps; the National Guard and the 43rd Division of the 103 Army Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific during World War II.
On June 10, 1946, he married Dorothy M. Constant at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He worked for International Paper Co., in Jay at the Otis and Androscoggin Mills. He also sold life insurance for Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Assumption. He was in the Toastmaster’s Club and became popular as a well-known public speaker.
He was an avid reader, did crossword puzzles, and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. Most of all, he enjoyed hosting family dinners with his wife and time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Church, serving as a lector, CCD teacher, parish council member, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 320. He served on the board of Franklin Memorial Hospital for many years.
He is survived by four children, Constance and Raymond Winship of Fairfield, George and Lillian Ouellette of Lewiston, Susan and Daniel Mancine of Jay and Doreen and Gilbert Bellmore of Livermore Falls; eight grandchildren, Michael Ouellette, Ronilynn Phillips, Scott, Daniel and Christopher Winship, Stacey Koloski, Jason Mancine, and Aimee LeBlanc; six great-grandchildren, Kristen and Emily Ouellette, Madison and Camden Phillips, Maiya and Chloe Koloski; three brothers, Laurence Ouellette of Clinton, Conn., Andre Ouellette of Jay and Maurice Ouellette of Auburn; and a sister, Sister Florence Ouellette of Wellesley, Mass.
He was predeceased by his wife; a granddaughter, Renee LeBlanc; brothers, Robert Ouellette, Edward Ouellette, Rev. Leo Ouellette, Victor Ouellette, Raymond Ouellette; and sisters, Sister Leo Cecelia and Theresa McCarthy.
