AUBURN – Some of the jurors at Daniel Roberts’ murder trial have themselves come under question.

Leonard Sharon, attorney for Roberts, said jurors were brought to the judge’s chambers at Androscoggin County Superior Court on Tuesday to further explain answers they had given to questions asked by attorneys and the judge during jury selection last week.

“Problems arose that in my belief could substantially affect their ability to judge the case neutrally or fairly,” Sharon said after court had adjourned.

Part of the morning Tuesday was spent meeting with jurors about one of the problems that had emerged earlier in the day, Sharon said.

After the jury was dismissed at the end of the day, Justice Joyce Wheeler told those attending the trial that some of the jurors had become aware that people in back-row seating were staring at them, apparently making them uncomfortable.

Wheeler said she wasn’t referring to any specific person in the courtroom.

Roberts was once leader of a local Hells Angels chapter.

Signs at the courthouse prohibit wearing of any badges, pins or colors of any organization.

Security at the courthouse is at its tightest ever. Two guards, with a metal detector and an X-ray machine, are at the front door. All other entrances are locked.

No cell phones, recorders and other electronic devices are allowed in the court building.
