BRIDGTON – Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Backes Randall of Lovell died Monday, Feb. 12, at Bridgton Health Care Center.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of the late George and Ellan Schmidt Backes.

She was married in 1947 to James H. Randall. She relocated to Lincoln, R.I., where she was an active member of the church, Girl Scout leader and volunteered as a swim instructor at the local YWCA.

After vacationing and having summer camps in Lovell for many years, she and her husband moved to Lovell permanently in 1991.

She is survived by her husband, James; her daughter, Linda Boucher of East Greenwich, R.I.; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Randall of Lovell; a sister, Agnes; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Mary; brothers, George, Harry and Robert; her son, James Jr.; and daughter, Virginia Palomares.
