Army Pvt. Patrick J. Ripley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Valire Ripley of Turner.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions and special training in human relations.

Army Staff Sgt. Daniel L. Langill has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

The medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

The sergeant is an armament/electrical system repairer assigned to the 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, Hunter Army Airfield, Hinesville, Ga.

He is the son of Catherine A. McMullen of New Portland. His wife, Cindy, is the daughter of Al Greer of Gray and Joan Johnson of Scarborough. Langill is a 1992 graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School.
