FRYEBURG – Marion B. Hobbs, 92, of Fryeburg, died on Feb. 14, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 27, 1914, a daughter of Stillman and Bessie (Heald) Barker. She attended schools in Fryeburg and graduated from South Paris High School in 1932. She also graduated from Wilfred Academy in Boston. After her stay in Boston, she moved to Farmington, where she met and later married Glendon C. Hobbs. The couple resided in Farmington until Glendon’s retirement in 1980. She was active in Farmington Congregational Church, the Garden Club and numerous other community organizations and activities.
She and her husband moved to Fryeburg and lived in the Barker family home until his death in 1988. While in Fryeburg, she was member of the First Congregational Church, the Historical Society, and the D.A.R. and the Fryeburg Library Club.
After her husband’s death, she left Fryeburg and went to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Falmouth. In 1996, they moved to Fryeburg and she again lived in her family home.
She was an avid reader, gardener and birdwatcher and enjoyed many hobbies. She especially enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Alan C. Hobbs, and his wife, Norma, of Boston, Mass.; her daughter, Diane Luce Towle, and her husband, Dan, of Fryeburg; three grandsons, Graham Luce, wife, Elizabeth, and sons, Alexander and Justin of Sherborn, Mass., Matthew Luce, wife, Jodi, and daughters, Keely and Alaina of Quakertown, Pa. and Jason Luce, wife, Mary, and daughters, Sofia and Alessandra of Prague, Czech Republic; a stepgranddaughter, Rebecca Towle Benson, husband, Michael, and children, Cambell and Brady; a stepgrandson, Christopher Towle; a niece, Jolene Barker of Fryeburg; and a nephew, John Buzzell of California.
She was predeceased by a sister, Daphine Buzzell of Groveland, Mass.; and a brother, Francis of Norway.
