Auburn – Dr. Laurier Paul Marcotte, 64, of Main Street, Lewiston, passed away at the Hospice House on Friday, Feb. 16, after a prolonged illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Jan. 6, 1943, the son of the late Lucienne (Carrier) Marcotte and Roland Marcotte.

He attended St. Louis and Holy Family schools before graduating from Lewiston High School in 1961. He later attended the University of Maine prior to earning to his doctorate from the Massachusetts School of Optometry in Boston.

He operated his own private practice in his home office for many years and was very thankful for his many loyal employees and patients. He was also honored to have served as a city councilor in Lewiston for two terms. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Parish of Lewiston.

He will be remembered for the love and kindness he showed to his family and friends, and for his dedication to helping people who battle the illnesses of alcoholism and drug addiction. Larry shared his wisdom using wit and a sense of humor, telling people not what they wanted to hear but what they needed to hear. Although he is no longer with us, his legendary “one liners” will continue to be used to inspire and entertain all of us.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 39 years, Margaret (O’Donnell) Marcotte; his sons, Jeffrey Marcotte of Farmington and Gregory Marcotte, daughter-in-law, Sarah and granddaughter, Gwen, all of Worcester, Mass.; his brother, Roland Marcotte of Lewiston; his sister, Jackie Klooster of Charlevoix, Mich.; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
