Dear Sun Spots: I understand there was recent inquiry looking for information about the American Chestnut.

The American Chestnut Foundation (www.ACF.org) has undertaken an effort to breed blight-resistant chestnut trees. Its Web site has considerable information about the program. Individuals may become members for a modest fee and receive a monthly newsletter. The address is P.O. Box 4044, Bennington, VT 05201, 802-447-0110.

For information about tree related questions, another source of information is the Lewiston-Auburn Community Forestry Board, a volunteer board made up of appointed volunteers. We have held workshops, received grants to plant trees in Lewiston-Auburn, held an annual Arbor Day event, and have qualified Lewiston and Auburn as “Tree City, USA.”

Doug Beck at the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department may be reached at 786-2829 for details on meetings, which are held the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. alternating between Lewiston and Auburn City halls. – David Griswold, chairman, LACFB, Lewiston.

Dear Sun Spots: I recently submitted a request for used greeting cards, birthday, Christmas and more and had offered to pay for postage for any I received. I received so many, I no longer need any more cards. However, I’d like to alert those readers who responded to my request to please call me if you’re not going to cash the checks I sent for postage. Alternatively, if you’ve torn the check up, please call me to let me know as I’m unable to balance my checkbook until I hear from you. I can be reached at 778-6780. Thanks to all those who responded. – Barbara Titcomb, No Town.
