CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) – A police officer suffered minor injuries when he was deliberately struck by a car while attempting to make a traffic stop late Saturday night, Cranston police said Sunday.

The officer, whose name was not released, fired a shot at the driver during the 11:15 p.m. incident on Pleasant Street, Sgt. Mike Patnaud said. It wasn’t known if the driver was shot. No arrests have been made.

The uniformed officer was on foot, and ordered a Nissan Maxima to stop. The car struck the officer, knocking him down. The car then backed up toward the officer, striking him again, police said.
