NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) – A fugitive dog led police on a chase that spanned two highways before it was safely captured, police said.

Two police cars chased the dog – a Chow Chow – along the Hutchinson River and Cross County parkways and side streets Saturday morning, Westchester County Police Lt. Henry Cetina said. After about half an hour, they corralled the dog into its caretaker’s arms. “It was harrowing,” Cetina said.

Some cars had to swerve to avoid hitting the animal, but no one was hurt.

“It was a happy ending,” the lieutenant said.
