SALEM, N.H. (AP) – The Elks lodge could lose its liquor license after members were caught gambling during the Super Bowl.
Members of the Derry-Salem Elks were betting money in a game known as football squares. New Hampshire Liquor enforcement officers said they seized the $6,000 pot and the squares from the lodge on Super Bowl Sunday. Lt. Kyle Metcalf said the club could be fined or lose its license after a hearing before the state Liquor Commission.
Some gambling is allowed in New Hampshire if a percentage of the proceeds goes to charity, but games at clubs must be approved in advance.
