LEWISTON – “This is a tremendous help to the community,” said Pat Mongeau who attended the Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition’s “Super Saturday” on Feb. 10 at Andover College. IRS-trained volunteers provided free income tax preparation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of the coalition’s Earned Income Tax Credit annual outreach. A total of 122 returns were e-filed during the event.

Attendees also took advantage of a financial education “Resource Room,” as well as obtaining free credit reports and receiving a one-on-one consultation about the report.

The EITC is a federal benefit for low and moderate income that assists with financial stability. This year, an EITC-eligible worker may receive up to a $4,536 tax credit.

Those interested in the free income tax preparation may call for an appointment at 784-2951, ext. 109, as the service will continue through the end of March at designated times at the Multi-Purpose Center, Lewiston, and Auburn City Building.

For eligibility information, interested residents may visit www.ci.lewiston.me.us and click on the EITC link under “Special Notices.”
