OSSIPEE, N.H. (AP) – An Ossipee man turned into a lifesaver during the weekend, when he rescued his trapped wife from their burning home.

Fire Chief Brad Eldridge says Janet Carroll would have died if her husband, Bill, hadn’t run into the home to get her out.

Janet Carroll awoke to the fire, but was trapped by flames in her bedroom. She called her husband at the convenience store where they both work, then called the fire department. She was hanging out the bedroom window when her husband pulled up.

Carroll threw water on flames to make a path to the bedroom and got his wife out. Husband and wife are in their 60s.
