FARMINGTON – Frank Lincoln Briggs, 79, of Wilton, died Monday, Feb. 19, at the Sandy River Nursing Care Center, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Malden, Mass., the son of Walter George and Elsa (Ade) Briggs. He was a 1945 graduate of Malden High School and in 1952 earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant from 1947 to 1950. In 1953, he married Martha Louise Woods of Worcester, Mass. For 43 years, he was employed as a sales engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed snow skiing, water-skiing, hiking, jogging and boating. He was a member of the Sugarloaf Ski Club and raced recreationally with the “Cardiac Club,” where he became friends with many Sugarloafers.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha of Wilton; their two sons, Walter, and his wife, Sarah, of Bethany, Conn. and two granddaughters, Rachel of Stratton and Emily of Bethany, Conn.; their son, Donald of Wallingford, Conn.; and their daughter, Nancy Marshall and her husband, Jay and grandsons, Craig and James “Jamie” of Carrabassett Valley; a sister, Dorothy Briggs Aronson of Medfield, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins who reside in Germany.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Walda.
His family wishes to extend a special thank-you to all the wonderful and caring health care professionals at the Sandy River Nursing Care Facility in Farmington, where he lived at the end of his life.
