After a very exciting day at Trinity on Wednesday including the Spelling Bee and the parent luncheon, everyone was even more excited to visit the annual Trinity Catholic Spaghetti Supper that night. The eighth graders did all the work because it was their fundraiser, and it was a very successful evening. In tips alone, over five hundred dollars were raised!
After school let out, most eighth graders and some staff took the shuttle buses over to the elementary school campus cafeteria, where the supper was to be held. All students were given their instructions by Mrs. Laurie Ouellette, owner of Sweet Pea designs, one of the main sponsors for the evening, and mother of one of the eighth graders. She briefed all of the “waiters” on our duties and told us how to be the best possible servers.
When the supper first began at 4 p.m. business was fairly easy. Most servers were able to take their time getting things, and some tables had many vacancies. The first forty-five minutes were simple, but when 5 p.m. hit, nobody was prepared for the rush of hungry parents. Almost every seat available was full, and the hostesses spent a good deal of the evening circling the room to find seating. Some people even had to wait!
There were hungry people all over the room, and all the waiters and waitresses had their hands full. However, nobody complained once about the work, and everyone seemed to be having a great time, students and diners alike. By the end of the night, after all the stuffed patrons had left, the eighth grade waiters and waitresses almost collapsed into their spaghetti! Even though it was a fast-paced, tiring night, every single person who went to the supper left with a smile on his or her face, and even the servers were smiling and laughing and congratulating each other on a night well done. I think it’s safe to say that no one left that supper unhappy!
