PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Providence received a rare scoring outburst from Dennis Packard and Jordan Sigalet posted his second shutout of the season as the Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 4-0 Wednesday night.
Packard scored an even-strength goal in the first period and a short-handed goal in the second for only his second and third goals of the season.
Packard had scored just five goals in 93 previous AHL games.
Sigalet stopped 30 shots, including 15 in the third period as Portland (24-21-2-7) outshot Providence 15-7.
Packard beat Mike Wall (20 saves) with a wrist shot between the pads at 13:20 of the first.
Providence (31-22-1-3) was skating short-handed when Packard split two Pirates in the neutral zone and slid the puck inside the right post.
Sean Curry gave Providence a 3-0 lead with a power-play goal at 17:02 of the second.
Matt Lashoff closed out the scoring when he scored on a slap shot from just inside the blue line while Providence was on a power play midway through the third period.
