Demands for tickets for the baseball games large – Tickets soon to be issued. Already people are asking Manager Heald of the Lewiston team for season tickets and as soon as they are placed on sale, they promise to go like hot cakes. The season tickets will be unusually neat and handy. There will be a separate ticket for each of the 50 games to be played in this city and to each admission ticket will be attached a rain check. They will be made up in book form with leather covers, just the size to slip into a vest pocket or a ladies pocketbook for in having the tickets made the fair sex was taken into consideration for it is expected that many of them will purchase the tickets.

50 years ago, 1957

• The St. Mary’s General Hospital construction committee has been organized with Dr. John T. Konecki of West Auburn as chairman and Attorney Alton A. Lessard of Lewiston as secretary. Dr. Konecki said much of the preliminary work on the hospital addition has been completed, the money has been raised, the blue prints made, and the entire project is through the planning stage.

• The steel industry entered 1957 at a record-breaking rate of production, and there are indications that steel consumption may well set a new record during the next six months, it was announced recently by Roger M. Blough, chairman of the board, United States Steel Corp.

25 years ago, 1982

• The American Textile Manufacturers Institute estimates that if import growth continues at the present rate, by the end of the century half of the textile products sold in America will come from other countries.

• More and more Americans are discovering a new way to spend. It’s called a debit card, and it looks like a credit card, but works like a check. There are national debit cards from Visa and MasterCard which can be used all over the country. And there are local debit cards good in a restricted geographical area.
