LEWISTON – Maine Family Federal Credit Union donated $2,160 to St. Martin de Porres Residence on Feb. 2 to purchase food for its residents during the winter. Credit union staff raised the funds by selling candles, toys and baked goods to its members during its Ending Hunger Campaign.

Individual credit unions distribute their fundraising efforts to local food pantries and organizations in their own communities. The 2006 Maine Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger raised a total of $315,419 to help end hunger in Maine.

St. Martin de Porres Residence helps homeless men and women in the L-A area get back on their feet after challenges in their personal lives. The residents sleep, eat and find spiritual guidance at the residence.

Maine Family Federal Credit Union staff toured the facility and learned how both organizations had similarities by helping people reach goals in their lives.

Maine Family Federal Credit Union is an $83 million asset credit union with nearly 18,000 members. Founded in 1938, the credit union has offices at 555 Sabattus St. in Lewiston and 831 Minot Ave. in Auburn. Its field of membership includes people who live, work, worship or attend school in Androscoggin County.
