LEWISTON- Estelle K. Pennamacoor, 88, formerly of Worcester, Mass., and Boca Raton, Fla., passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 22, at Marshwood Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation in Lewiston, where she had been a resident for the last two years.

Born in Boston on April 28, 1918, she was the daughter of Alex and Viola R. Marks Kaufman. She was educated in Canton, Mass., schools, and graduated from Portia Law School in 1940.

She married Alfred J. Pennamacoor in 1942 and returned to school after his death in 1964. She attended classes at Worcester State College, where she achieved her teaching certificate.

In 1969, she began teaching the sixth grade for the Dudley/Charlton Regional School District in Charlton, Mass.

In 1991, at the age of 73, Estelle retired after having taught for 23 years.

Estelle was an avid reader, looked forward to the New York Times crossword puzzle every week, loved talking politics, enjoyed knitting, and playing cards and Scrabble. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Sarajane and husband, Allan Levine, of Lancaster, Mass., Melissa and husband, Mark Johnson, of Auburn, and Cantor Beth Leslie of Stuart, Fla.; a sister, Marian E. Barlow of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Julie Resnick, Rabbi Deborah Levine Lefton, Kimberly Sietal, Andrew Levine, Matthew, Michael and Meredith Johnson, and Jessica and Rebecca Leslie; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Levine, in 1984.
