FARMINGTON – A Wilton woman is in critical condition after the snowmobile she and her fiancé were riding was struck by a car at 10:36 p.m. Friday on Route 2 near the Harvest House.
Lisa Cerqueira, 20, and Richard Billian, 23, a Farmington police officer, were riding their snowmobile on a trail that crosses Route 2. The snowmobile got stuck on the road’s curb, however, and both got off to try and push it free.
They were struck by a 2001 Mercury SUV driven by Sarah Forbes, 43, of Farmington. Deputy Sandy Burke of the Franklin County Sheriff Department said Forbes has been charged with aggravated operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.
“The reason she’s been given an aggravated charge is because there was a bodily injury involved,” he said.
Cerqueira was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, airlifted to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and then to Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was listed in critical condition with a ruptured aorta and multiple fractures.
Billian suffered a broken foot and lacerations to his leg and head.
Neither Forbes nor her passenger, Bruce Quirrion, 36, of Dryden, suffered serious injuries, Burke said.
