MEXICO – John R. Olsen, 57, of Mexico, died Friday, Feb. 23, at his home on Middle Ave.

Born in Rumford on March 28, 1949, he was a son of Michael and Jean (Rennie) Olsen. He graduated from Rumford High School and attended the University of Maine at Farmington.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He worked as an electrician in the E & I department at NewPage Paper Mill in Rumford.

John was the chairman of the board of Rolling Thunder. He was also a member of Blazing Star Lodge No. 30, and the Rumford United Methodist Church.

He loved camping, his Harley and Disney World.

He was married in Rumford on Sept. 10, 1977, to Susan Giasson, who survives, of Mexico.

Other survivors include three daughters, Erika Olsen and her fiancé, Peter Hodge, of Virginia Beach, Va., Lori Adley and her husband, Greg, of Rumford, and Sherri Knox and her husband, Travis, of Mexico; his mother, Jean Olsen of Mexico; a brother, Michael Olsen and his wife, Mary, of Newport News, Va.; and four grandchildren, Cameron, Celina, Dylan and Big Al.
