Legion meeting

LISBON – Coombs Mountfort Post 158, American Legion, and Auxiliary will meet at l7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the post home, Webster Street.

Meeting speaker

LEWISTON – The National Active Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Ramada Inn.

Arthur Pike of Caribou, state NARFE Federation president, will be the speaker. He will provide information about the federation, statewide and nationally.

Plans for the meeting were made at the home of Vi Dumais. Attending were Mike and Flo Bohunicky, Sue Stetson and Doris Hamel.

Valentine lunch

AUBURN – Robin Dow Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, 426 Washington St.

The Valentine luncheon, originally scheduled for Feb. 14 but canceled due to the inclement weather, will take place under the direction of Irving Grant and his volunteer assistants. The crowning of the Valentine king and queen will take place. Members are reminded to bring their cups.

There will be the usual raffle table, and bingo will be played after lunch.

Trip Chairwoman Evelyn Sawin said she has a trip scheduled for Foster’s Lobster House, York, on June 22, with a cost of $49. One does not have to be a member of Robin Dow Seniors to attend. Those who wish to make reservations may phone Sawin at 998-4577 or see her at Robin Dow meetings.

Registration set

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Junior Athletic League will hold T-ball, baseball and softball registration from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, and Thursday, March 1, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 3. The sessions will take place at the MTM Center on School Street. For more information, contact Amy Austin at 353-3154.

Next Gen event

LEWISTON – The Modern Woodmen of America district office will host a state Next Gen 529 College Plan seminar at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28. The guest speaker will be Karen Vigue of the Finance Authority of Maine, who will discuss the matching grant program available to Maine residents.

The presentation will take place at the Carriage House, 1119 Lisbon St. Soup and sandwiches will be served. The cost is $5 a person.

Kiwanis tour

AUBURN – The Auburn Lewiston Kiwanis Club will hit the road at noon Wednesday, Feb. 28, to visit the Auburn Public Library. Rosemary Waltos, director of the library and a Kiwanis member, will provide a history of the 115-year-old library and the new programs provided at the downtown Carnegie Building.

Lunch will be catered by Dore’s Café of Auburn and all current and former Kiwanis members are welcome. Contact President Patti Gagne at 783-4529 if attending. For additional information on the Kiwanis Club, call Craig Phillips at 795-6044.

Society speaker

BOWDOIN – The Bowdoin Historical Society will meet at the FHC Inc. building at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4. Following a potluck supper and business meeting, Jayne Bickford will present a program about local Revolutionaries. All members are invited to attend, as is the public. All persons wishing to join the society will be welcome.
