LEWISTON – Parents of Lewiston public K-12 students are invited to a meeting Tuesday night to learn about Internet safety.

The meeting will be led by Randy Dehetre, technology integration teacher at the Lewiston Middle School. It begins at 6:30 p.m. at the middle school.

Among the topics covered Monday night will be that computers should not be in bedrooms where parents can’t see what their child has on the screen, computers should always be in common rooms. “Know what your child is doing on the Internet,” Dehetre said.

Lewiston parents will also be told about an online educational search engine for Lewiston students being recommended by teachers. The search engine is netTrekker. It normally costs $10 a month, but because of a grant, it is being given free to all Lewiston students, Dehetre said. Every single source on netTrekker has been looked at by educators, Dehetre said. NetTrekker is not only free and safe, but is a recommended source for students’ homework and reports.
