AUGUSTA – The University of Maine at Augusta will present a special performance of “Telling Somali Women’s Stories” at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Jewett Hall.

The powerful theater piece is based on the stories, songs and oral histories of women refugees who fled the deadly civil war in Somalia, spent years in exile and finally found new lives and community in Lewiston.

“Telling Somali Women’s Stories” is performed by a group of Somali women in collaboration with faculty from the University of Maine. Together, they crafted a compelling production chronicling the history and culture of Somali women in Maine.

The performance is free and open to the public.
