Parcelle the great hypnotist will take any person who wishes to sleep for several hours in full view of the inquiring public and place them in a hypnotic state. At 9:30 o’clock this evening, the subject will be removed to the Empire theater and there awakened in the presence of the audience.

• A dress-making plant, which would eventually employ up to 150 persons, will begin operations in Lewiston soon, providing an adequate supply of garment workers is available locally. This was announced by Lewiston Industrial Development Director Samuel Michael. He declined to identify the firm pending further developments.
• This is the 150th anniversary of Longfellow, the gentle, Portland-born poet whose work has delighted so many millions of Americans, and others outside this country, during the past century and more. Both the Brattle House in Cambridge, Mass., and the Longfellow home in Portland will be showing memorabilia of Longfellow’s life and career.

Maine’s court reporters are worried that a bill before the Legislature could “open the door” for the use of electronic recording devices rather than live stenographers in the state’s superior courts. Tape recorders are now used to document proceedings in the state’s district courts, but statute requires the use of court stenographers in supreme and superior courts. A bill now being considered by the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee would allow the use of tape recorders in superior court.
