Lenten luncheon

LOCKE MILLS – The Bethel Area Clergy will have a Lenten luncheon of soup, breads and desserts at noon Thursday, March 1, at the Locke Mills Union Church. It will be hosted by the West Parish Congregational Church. The Rev. Ginger Rickerman will be the speaker.

Church supper

BETHEL – The Bethel United Methodist Church will hold a public supper starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the church. The menu will include baked beans, hot dishes, salads, dessert, rolls and beverage. Cost is adults, $6; under 12, $3.

Youth supper

OTISFIELD – There will be a Youth Group benefit supper at Spurr’s Corner Church at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. All donations will go toward the youth group’s trip to the C&MA Life Conference in Orlando, Fla., in the summer.

Society speaker

FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Historical Society will meet Tuesday, March 6, at the American Legion Hall, Bradley Street. A brief business meeting will begin at 7 p.m followed by a program given by Ed Jones on “Cornshop Time.” Refreshments will be served and the public is welcome. Author to speak

BRYANT POND – Susan Clement Farrar will be the guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 8. Farrar will talk about two of her books, “Samantha on Stage” and “Emily and Her Cavalier.”

Farrar has been a guest before, but slippery traveling kept many away so she has been rescheduled. The free program is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Bridge results

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Feb. 23 in the Fare Share Common, Main Street, for a 3 and 1/2 table Howell movement. The club celebrated Eleanor Griffin’s 90th birthday. Cards, balloons and a cake highlighted the celebration.

Finishing first in Flight A, B and C were Wally Fricke and Barbara Vanderzaden, with Marta Clements and Mike True second in Flight A, with Pete Cummings and Richard Allen third.

Tied for second/third were Eleanor Griffin and her partner, Barbara Beegel, with Beverly Dolan and Beverly Pelletier.

There will be another game Friday, March 2. A partner is guaranteed. All bridge players are welcome. There is parking in the rear of the building. For information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153.
