BRUNSWICK – “Iditarod: A Dog’s Tale,” the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum’s ninth annual family day, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m Saturday, March 3, at Bowdoin College.
Children of all ages and their families are invited to participate in the Arctic Museum’s free activities, including games, crafts, and storytelling.
The start of the 35th annual Iditarod dog-sled race, often described as the “last great race on earth,” will take place March 3. From Anchorage to Nome, the race covers more than 1,000 miles of the roughest terrain in Alaska.
To highlight the event, the Arctic Museum has planned several activities in honor of the “stars” of the Iditarod – the dog-teams that lead their mushers and sleds on the long journey to the finish line.
Children taking part in “Iditarod: A Dog’s Tale” can make a beaded dog zipper pull, a dog face mask and a journey log book, along with other crafts. Rounding out the festivities will be face-painting and the reading of the heroic story of “Balto,” the sled dog.
Activities will take place in Hubbard Hall on the college campus. For more information, call the museum at 725-3416.
