RUMFORD – The first combined Special Olympics Winter Games for Androscoggin and Franklin counties will be held today and Wednesday, Feb. 27 and 28, at Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford.

Approximately 100 athletes from both counties will compete in Nordic, Alpine, sit ski and snowshoe events over the two days. Preliminary time trials will be held today, with the final races set for Wednesday morning.

Opening ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Lighting of the Special Olympics Torch will start the games. For more information, call Jody Benson at 240-3282.
