AUBURN – David Blethen, KD1OW, will visit the Auburn Public Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 8, and discuss the old-fashioned wonders of shortwave radio, which still provides opportunities to reach out into the world and make new friends in faraway lands.

Blethen is well-versed in introducing the hobby to newcomers of all ages. He is a member of the Androscoggin Amateur Radio Club, a former state coordinator for the American Radio Relay League and has taught numerous ham radio license courses.

He is also a radio merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America, with whom he helps to operate a ham radio station for teenagers in Lisbon.
