Needs volunteers

RUMFORD – Black Mountain is hosting the USSA-EHSC Maine Selection Race and staff needs help with the slalom race at 11 a.m. and the GS race at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 3. Those who would like to volunteer should contact Lisa at Black Mountain at 364-8977, ext. 104.

Legion meetings

RUMFORD – American Legion Post 24 and Auxiliary will hold their respective meetings on Sunday, March 4, at the post home, Congress Street.

Members will celebrate the Legion’s 88th birthday and will honor past presidents and commanders. Lunch will be served at 5 p.m. with activities to follow.

Food drive

MEXICO – Curves of Mexico will participate in the Curves food drive to benefit local food banks. Curves will waive its service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of non-perishable groceries between March 1 and 10.

Others wishing to donate may drop off food items at Curves on Monday through Saturday during business hours through March. Curves is located at 137 Main St., Unit 3.

Library raffles

MEXICO – The Mexico Public Library is selling a variety of raffle tickets. A 50/50 raffle drawing will be held at the library-sponsored public supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday March 3, at the Calvin Lyons Hall. Tickets can be purchased at the library until Saturday and during the supper.

Several theme baskets are being raffled: baby basket, “Irish” basket, two kiddy baskets, cat basket, dog basket, pet basket and book lover’s basket. They are on display and tickets are being sold at the library until March 3., when tickets will be drawn.

Tickets for all raffles are $1 each; $2 for three; and $5 for seven. Attendance at the spaghetti supper is not required.

Center art

RUMFORD – Pennacook Art Center will kick off its spring Artist’s Palette fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2.

On display during March will be palette-shaped paintings of wildlife, landscapes and calligraphy. The paintings were done by artists associated with the gallery and are for sale by auction to the highest bidder. The proceeds will go toward matching the remaining Maine Community Foundation grant money awarded to the gallery.

The auction will be silent, with all bids visible. Bids will be accepted from Friday, March 2, to 5 p.m. Friday, April 6.

Pennacook Art Center is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. It is located at 82 Congress St. For more information, call 364-9972.

Program on loss

BETHEL – A “Community Program on Unexpected and Traumatic Loss” will be presented from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the West Parish Congregational Church, Garland Chapel, Church Street.

The program is being sponsored by Western Mountains Senior College, SAD 44 Community Education, Bethel Family Health Center, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and Wayne DuPlessis, counselor. Admission is free and the public is invited. For more information, call 824-2053 or 824-8610.
