AUBURN – David W. “Doc” Rowe, 68, died Feb. 26, at the Hospice House in Auburn after a brief illness.
He was born March 11, 1938, in Waltham, Mass., the son of Robert Rowe and Roberta Holmes.
He spent his early childhood in Brockton, Mass., until moving to Washington, D.C.
He spent many summers in Lewiston with his grandfather, longtime Dean of Bates College, Harry W. Rowe.
He attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Washington, graduating in 1956. While at Roosevelt, he excelled in track and football, playing in the City Championship in 1955, something of which he was very proud.
After spending a year in the U.S. Army, he enrolled at American University, graduating in 1960 with a degree in marketing and business administration.
While attending AU, he was a four-year letterman in Track and Field and was very active in his fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega.
Until his retirement, he worked as a commercial insurance salesman, first in the Washington area and then in Maine, after moving to Auburn in 1977.
He will be fondly remembered by his daughter, Beckie L. Rowe of Reston, Va.; his son, Todd W. Rowe, his wife, Wilma, and their sons, Anthony, Nicholas, Peter, and Kenneth, all of Hunt Valley, Md.; his ex-wife and dear friend, Donna Rowe of Auburn; his brother, Richard Rowe and his family.
He also had many close and devoted friends in the Lewiston-Auburn area. The family wishes to thank them for their true friendship and love of Doc.
He was predeceased by his parents.
