Stubbert was raised in a Cape Breton fishing and mining community known for its rich musical traditions. Irish, Scottish, and French Acadian styles all lent their distinctive character to the music played at house parties and dances. Stubbert participated from an early age, building a vast repertoire of tunes and skills. Her fiddling is full of trills and embellishments, yet delivered with astonishing ease. Sound clips and more information can be found at her Web site, www.cranfordpub.com/stubbert
Emmons’ driving keyboard rhythms provide the perfect counterpoint to Stubbert’s fiddling. Her expert timing emerges from decades of contradance accompaniment as well as countless sessions with traditional musicians in Cape Breton.
