MINOT – First appearances would suggest that Saturday’s town meeting could be a quiet affair. It convenes at 9 a.m. at the Minot Consolidated School

The School Committee’s $3,771,000 budget request is about 2.4 percent more than this year’s budget. The town budget committee is recommending cuts of $6,000.

For the municipal budget, the budget committee’s recommendation is $3,600 less than the selectmen’s recommended of $1,276,550.

The School Committee’s request has been criticized because it would eliminate, at least temporarily, the music program, would beef up the library program with a certified librarian who would teach a graded course, and add a teaching position in a year when enrollment is steadily declining and is projected to drop another 20 pupils next fall.

The town budget committee opposes the selectmen’s requests for a generator system for the town garage and a replacement pickup truck. Selectmen support allocating $30,000 for the recreation department’s plan to develop parking space and a regulation Babe Ruth baseball field in the new Minot Community Park, whereas the budget committee recommends the full request for $50,000 be honored.

Other issues to be decided include money to repave the school parking lot and whether the town should accept the phase II portion of Fortin Drive.

Voters will also be asked to approve the land use ordinance committee’s recommendation to amend the subdivision standards and the minimum street construction requirements of the town’s land use code.

A year ago, the committee was asked to rewrite the code in order to clear up inconsistencies and to make it conform with the town’s comprehensive plan.
