Here in Lewiston, we are fortunate enough to be home to myriad cultures and belief systems. I have always felt privileged to live in such a place.

As a member of the pagan community, I was personally thrilled to find out that the Northeast Psychic and Mediums Guild would be holding a holistic fair here in town. But recently, I have been informed a protest has been planned on March 3 against the event.

It saddens me that our community is willing to host so many celebrations related to religion, but appears to be unwilling to tolerate pagans. You will not see pagans out on the field of Kenndy Park when the evangelists put up their tents every summer, bearing signs with hateful slogans and shouting. You will not see pagans outside church picnics or benefit suppers in protest. Pagans, as a general rule, see no crime in practicing one’s faith, no matter what that faith is, or how we might disagree with its dogma.

We seek to live and let live, and ask that others choose to do the same.
