JAY – A $500 Frank L. Mitchell Post 3335, VFW, and John Newcomb Scholarship were presented to Tristan Brochu of Jay on Feb. 23.
Brochu will graduate from Northern Maine Community College. He is the son of Dan Brochu of Wayne and Elise Depres of Jay.
The Scholarship Committee is composed of VFW Post and Auxiliary members, including Paulette Newcomb, Erlon Rose and Chairman Fred Jackman. The $500 scholarship is awarded annually to full-time students who are sons, daughters, stepsons, stepdaughters or grandchildren of members of VFW Post 3335.
Brochu was sponsored by his grandfather, Laurent Brochu, who was unable to be attend the presentation.
The recipients are chosen in a random drawing from the applications received. The winners must attend an accredited school, and awards are given for second semester.
Applications are available for next year’s scholarship at Post 3335, 64 Jewell St., or by contacting Fred Jackman at 897-4261.
