MECHANIC FALLS – Two men were being treated for stab wounds late Wednesday after a fight in a Lewiston Street apartment shortly after 9 p.m.

Police said it appeared the men, both believed to be in their late 20s, stabbed each other during a fight inside a building near the laundromat.

One victim was found immediately at the scene of the incident. Mechanic Falls police and Androscoggin County sheriff’s deputies had to search for the second man. He was found in a building in another part of town, police said.

By 10 p.m., police said both victims had been taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

By 11 p.m., one victim had already been released from the hospital. The names of the victims were not available late Wednesday night.

Mechanic Falls police officer Timothy Gamache and ASO deputy Tom Slivinski remained at the scene of the incident late Wednesday night. Mechanic Falls police Chief Jeff Goss was also called to the scene and was handling the investigation.

Goss was not available for comment. ASO Sgt. Rielly Bryant was called in to assist with the investigation.

It was not immediately clear what led to the incident, police said.
