Lewiston – Evelyn ‘Miss Evelyn’ Irene Newton, 82, of Pine St., died Wednesday, February 28, at Central Maine Medical Center, in Lewiston.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1924, in Baileyville, the daughter of Carter and Amey (Holland) McNutt. She attended Pownal Schools.

She had been a member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, in Auburn, since 1994 and enjoyed reciting poetry at church. Her hobbies were crocheting, making dolls clothes, as well as being a seamstress. She loved people and loved to give.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Ruggieri; her companion friend, Raymond Bouthot, of Lewiston; sister Violet Stokes, of Texas; brothers, Clarence McNutt of California, and Robert McNutt of Maine; grandchildren, Jason Akers and his wife, Katie, Christina Ruggieri and Michael Ruggieri, all of Maine; Goddaughter, Alayshia Henry, of New York; friends, Linda and Roger Picard; and “Sister” Carrie Hull-Chandler, who considered Evelyn her adopted daughter.

She was predeceased by her son, Roger Burnell; twin sister, Edith Collins; sisters, Carrie Purnell and Elizabeth Doyle; and a brother, Carl McNutt.
