Church speaker
PARIS – “Promises, promises…” will be the sermon topic of Silver Moore-Leamon at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., Paris, on Sunday, March 4. The service will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by brunch in Good Cheer Hall. The music will be directed by Forest Perkins, church organist, and the Sunday school will be led by Renee Wales. Child care is provided. All are welcome.
Lenten lunch
LOCKE MILLS – A Lenten service and lunch will be held at noon Thursday, March 8, at the Locke Mills Union Church, sponsored by the Bethel Area Clergy Association. The host church will be the Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Geoffrey Gross as the speaker. All are welcome.
Center services
CANTON – The Pinpoint of Light Spiritualist Center Pastoral Committee is scheduling presiders, mediums and healers at its services. Sunday services are held at 11 a.m. at the old Canton Fire Station/Municipal Building followed by a potluck lunch. All are welcome.
Development classes are held at the church from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. Call Shirley at 597-2595 for information.
Pinpoint of Light is affiliated with the National Spiritualist Association of Churches and the national convention will be held in Portland in October. Pinpoint of Light is participating in the planning and fundraising efforts. The church’s new mailing address is Pinpoint of Light Spiritualist Center, PO Box 69, Paris ME 04271.
Kick-off supper
NORWAY – The 2007 Norway Summer Festival kick-off spaghetti supper will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Universalist Church, 479 Main St. It will feature Charles Longley’s meatballs, salad, bread and peach melba dessert.
There will be music by the Lona Bedard Trio, samples of Poets on the Porch, a preview the sidewalk art show and an announcement of the 2007 Focus figure. Cost is $10 a person and tickets are available at the Norway Memorial Library and Books ‘n Things.
Benefit supper
LOVELL – A benefit spaghetti supper will be held for Scott Thomas from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Center Lovell Fire Station, Route 5. Cost is $7 a person. Proceeds will help with ongoing cancer treatment.
Benefit dance
PARIS – A benefit for fire victim Vira Micklon will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at South Paris Legion Hall, Church Street. Music will be by the Belairs, Terry Twitchell, Rusty Brackett and Jim Hooker.
The event is being sponsored by the Norway/Paris Lions Club. Cost is $10 a person. Tickets are available at Parts and Pieces, Oxford; Androscoggin Bank, South Paris; and at the door. There will also be hot dogs, soda and baked goods available and a 50/50 raffle.
Safety course
OXFORD – A firearms hunter safety course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. starting Tuesday, March 13, at the Lake Thompson Fish and Game clubhouse, Paine Road, East Oxford. It is a home study course. The second class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24. Students must attend both sessions. For more information, contact Perry Edwards at 743-6290.
Nature Trek
CASCO – Nature Trek, a program of Momentum Inc., will host a “Day on the Ice” at Owl Pond from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 9. It is part of a series of integrated outdoor trips for adults with and without disabilities.
Events will include a half-mile hike on a packed winter trail to ice fish, cross country skiing, snowmobile rides, snowshoeing, parachute games and campfire cooking. Lunch, snacks and hot chocolate will be provided.
