LEWISTON – Charles M. Spier, age 56, of Durham, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Central Maine Medical Center, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston, Feb. 22, 1951, the son of John and Idalette Seat Spier, Jr. He attended Durham schools and graduated from Edward Little High School, with the class of 1969.

On Feb. 28, 1976, in Durham, he married the former Sandra Jones of Freeport. He was employed for the State of Maine for 34 years as a crises and case worker, and also worked for Geiger Brothers in their printing department. He was a reserve officer with the Androscoggin Sheriff Department and the Lisbon Police Department and a volunteer firefighter with the Durham Fire Department.

He was a member of the Auburn Ski Club, and the Rod and Gun Club, of Durham. He was an avid outdoorsman, where he loved to hunt and fish. He had a love for wild birds and his hunting dogs. He also enjoyed gardening, photography and life in general.

He is survived by his wife of Durham; two daughters, Jamie Spier, of Lewiston, and Holly Spier, of N.C.; his parents, John and Lorraine Morin Spier Jr., of Durham; one sister, Darlene, and her husband, James Bellefleur, of Durham; two brothers, John Spier III, and his wife, Margaret, of Gardiner, and Calvin Spier, of Durham; two stepbrothers, Robert Fogg, of Warren, and Michael Fogg, of Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Idalette Spier, and baby sister, Anne Spier.
