NEW SHARON – Mildred Viola Edwards Davis, 95, of Farmington died Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Gary Chretien, of New Sharon, where she had resided for many years following a long illness, with her three daughters and son-in-law at her side.
She was born Sept. 20, 1911, in New Portland, the daughter of Albion K.P. and Sadie Ellen (Smith) Edwards. The birth included a twin brother, Merton, born minutes later. She attended schools in East New Portland and graduated in 1930 from Central High School. Mildred and her brothers and sisters always attended the alumni reunions, valuing their education and their many friends.
In 1935, she married Archie J. Davis of New Sharon. They owned dairy farms on which she worked as a full partner in the farm work, raised three daughters, managed a home and had a large garden from which she canned and froze the produce, leaving no time for recreation. She did attend and enjoy the Falls Road Club with her neighbors.
In 1967, they sold their dairy farm in Farmington, the former Archie Pratt residence, and retired, spending six months in Maine and six months in Florida. There she learned to play and love golf, bowling and visiting with many friends from all over the United States.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend. The great kindness, thoughtfulness and respect that she gave willingly to all will always be remembered and appreciated.
