PORTLAND – Douglas Paul Ray, 54, of 208 Maple St., Bangor, died Saturday morning March 3, at Maine Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Lewiston on April 12, 1952, son of Adrienne V. and Ernest Stanley Ray of Auburn, and later of Minot.
He met the love of his life, Ilise Kaufman, and they were married Dec. 18, 1994.
He graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn in the Class of 1972, and attended the Boston School of Art.
He belonged to the Bangor Art Society. Painting was his passion, especially flowers, the wilderness and small animals.
He was also well-known in the Bangor area as a self-employed residential painter.
He loved to make people laugh, taking pictures, fishing, kayaking and hiking with his four-legged sidekick, Baxter.
He leaves four brothers, one sister, and their spouses, Ernest A. and Rita Ray of Poland Spring, Robert B. and Linda Ray of Manchester, Richard T. and Maida Ray of Minot, and Kenneth S. and Allyson Ray of Cumberland Foreside; his sister, Shirley A. (Ray) and David Everhart of Monmouth; six nieces, 10 nephews, eight grandnieces, and four grandnephews.
Douglas was predeceased by by his lovely wife, wonderful parents, and two beautiful nieces, Tina Ann Ray Drumtra and Dara Kaufman.
