WILTON – Town Manager Peter Nielsen will give the Board of Selectmen an update on his fact-finding efforts regarding the Police Department during Tuesday’s board meeting. The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the town office.
Nielsen said he and police Chief Dennis Brown met with District Attorney Norman Croteau recently to look over materials presented at the Feb. 16 special board meeting. The meeting was held to address a letter from the district attorney that transferred child sex abuse and other cases to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
From that meeting, selectmen instructed Nielsen and Brown to go on a “fact-finding initiative” after the district attorney’s letter, which expressed concerns that the department was inadequately or inappropriately responding to calls for service.
In other business, the board will also hear a report from forester Alan Magrath on the wood harvest of 134 acres next to Varnum Pond that is owned by the town. With the land located next to the source of the town’s drinking water, they are trying to cut the wood in an ecologically appropriate way, and the details will be explained, Nielsen said.
The board will also meet with representatives of SAD 9 to discuss a proposal for new lighting in the Academy Hill School gym.
