LEWISTON – Advocates for Children will offer a “1,2,3,4 Parents!” workshop from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, March 6 to 20.

The class is an interactive learning experience for parents of young children, ages 1 through 4. It features video presentations, discussion, workbook activities and group activities.

Participants will learn the following fundamental skills: The importance of the parent’s self-esteem, value of the child and the job of parenting, basic developmental stages from ages 1 to 4, parental self-care, methods of bonding, non-violent discipline skills, encouragement skills and prevention techniques.

There is a fee of $12.95 for the required handbook. Child care will be provided. To register for the class, call AFC at 783-3990.

“Boot Camp for New Dads,” an education program for first-time fathers, will be taught by fathers.

The workshop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday March 19, at Advocates for Children, B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St.

The class gives expecting fathers the actual hands-on practice of taking care of a baby, under the guidance of veteran dads who bring their new babies to class.

Along with baby care, the class will review the changing role of fathers and how to meet the needs of new mothers.

There is no charge for the program for new fathers. For more information or to register, contact Advocates for Children at 783-3990, or visit www.advocatesforchildren.net.

Advocates for Children is a participating United Way agency.
