I am writing to you about something that appeared in the article (The marijuana advocate) in the Feb. 25. Sun Journal.
Seven deadly social sins, originally coined by Gandhi, are cited in the article, as well as in the caption to the photograph, (both on page A4). I was extremely disappointed to see that Mahatma (great soul) Gandhi’s name was misspelled on multiple occasions as “Ghandi.”
When citing a world statesman like Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, I would expect that the editorial staff of any good newspaper would make an effort to ensure that the name is spelled correctly. Misspelling of Mr. Gandhi’s name depicts very poor general knowledge of your staff, and a total lack of caring for good editorial practices and good journalism at the Sun Journal.
This is not the first time that I have come across spelling errors in the Sun Journal. This time it happened to be in the name of a world statesman. At other times it has been with simple words from the English language.
If the Sun Journal has any aspirations of rising above mediocrity, then one of the first places to start would be in watching for mistakes in spellings.
