NORWAY – Mae Irene Dunham, 94, of Greenwood, died Monday, March 5, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 18, 1912, the youngest child of Wallace Edgar and Mary Jane Knapp Coolidge, and the last child born on Kimball Hill in East Bethel. She attended Bethel schools and in 1932 graduated from Woodstock High School.

She was afterwards employed by E. L. Tebbets Spool Co. in Locke Mills, assembling toys in the “Popeye shop.” After her children were grown, she returned to work at the Ekco mill.

She married Edgar H. Dunham of Greenwood on May 4, 1935. They settled in 1936 on Howe Hill Road in Locke Mills, where they would live until his death on Dec. 10, 1991. With the help of her children, Mae was able to remain in her own home for the duration of her life.

Hers was a quiet life devoted to family. She enjoyed gardening, picking berries and word puzzles.

In 2005, she was awarded the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of Greenwood.

She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Dunham; her son, Gilbert Dunham and wife, Barbara; and her sister-in-law, Vera Cross, all of Greenwood; granddaughter, Tammy Caron and husband, Robert, of North Monmouth; grandson, Jeffrey Dunham and wife, Maria, of North Fort Myers, Fla.; grandson, Christopher Dunham of North Monmouth; and great-granddaughters, Elisabeth, Crystal, Samantha, Rebecca, Brittany, Jessica, Kiya, Heather, Hailey, Aleya, Beth and Stella.
