LEWISTON – Mason Bennett, 87, of Hebron, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 4, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born on April 27, 1919, in Buckfield, the fourth child of Paul and Blanche Buck Bennett. He attended school in Buckfield and graduated from Buckfield High School in 1936.
He proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Navy Armed Guard from 1943 to 1946. Upon discharge, he joined his brothers in Bennett Brothers Dairy Farm, retiring in 1985.
On June 28, 1947, he married Gladys Norwood. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. He is survived by his wife of Hebron; a daughter Jean Sylvester and her husband Andrew of Hebron; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Ann Bennett; a brother, Roland Bennett and his wife Beverly of Buckfield; a sister, Kathryn Lawson of Waterbury, Conn.; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Bennett of Buckfield; five grandchildren, Jennifer Sylvester of Hebron, Michele, Joel, Jr., Jeffrey and Jason Bennett all of Buckfield; two great granddaughters, Cheryl and Carla Powers of Buckfield; and two special friends, Jack Hackett and Bill Huff both of Buckfield. Mason was predeceased by a son, Joel Mason Bennett, Sr.; brothers, Stanley, Gerald and Paul Bennett; and a sister Marjorie Rugg.
