4-H movie

BETHEL – Seventy-four 4-H members and parents traveled to the Casablanca Theater on Dec. 21 to “Help Support 4-H at the Movies!” Night. Funds went to the National 4-H Council and to each state directly. The “Charlotte’s Web” movie highlights a young girl enrolled in Maine 4-H and encourages her family to show their pig at the county fair.

Board opening

PARIS – The Paris Public Library has an opening on its board of trustees. Any interested resident of Paris, at least 18 years old, is invited to submit their name to the library or trustees. The board meets the third Thursday of each month and is responsible for the library and its policies. Previous applicants are encouraged to reapply.

Board members are Bonnie Ripley, Raymond Glover, Connie Allen, Carol Huotari, Carolyn Blais, Karen Ellis, John Gould, Joan Moorehead, Sarah Otterson and Florence Wendell.

GOP speaker

MEXICO – James Hodgkin, SAD 43 superintendent, will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, March 13, meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee at the Mexico Congregational (Green) Church on Main Street.

Hodgkin will speak on the governor’s proposal to consolidate school administrations throughout the state into a smaller number of units. The meeting will begin with a 5:30 p.m. social hour and 6:30 dinner, followed by the speaker and business meeting. Members will also hear a report on last month’s Lincoln Day dinner. All area Republicans are invited.

Day of prayer

NORWAY – The Church Women United program for World Day of Prayer, “United Under God’s Tent,” will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Daughters to meet

NORWAY – The Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, met Feb. 28 at the home of Marilyn Jones with five members present. Jones was installed press correspondent and Mary “Beth” Jones was installed guide.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 28, at the home of Marilyn Jones. It has been voted not to hold a meeting in January in the future. Department convention will be held in Waterville on Thursday and Friday, June 21 and 22.
