BRUNSWICK – Muriel Ann Stilphen, age 70, of Pejepscot Terrace, died Sunday, March 4, at her residence.
She was born in Lisbon Falls, Aug. 11, 1936, the daughter of Edgar S. and Mary A. Woijtko Reynolds. She was a 1954 graduate of Lisbon High School.
For several years she worked as a spinner at the Worumbo Mill. She then worked as a brush maker for Jay Brush.
On Sept. 6, 1969, she married Arthur Stilphen. He died on March 8, 1985. After her marriage, they moved to Bremen, where they operated a wholesale clam business for six years. They returned to the Brunswick area, where she resumed her work as a brush maker, at Jay Brush. She continued to work for Jay Brush as it became Grumbacher, and moved to the Lisbon area. She retired at the closing of Grumbacher in the late 90s.
She enjoyed playing beano, the lottery, taking pictures, and walking her dogs along the beach. She loved animals and also enjoyed family get togethers, and would often entertain the younger children in her family. She sang in the choir at St. John’s Church for many years.
She was a member of the Riverview Grange, the Topsham American Legion Auxiliary, and St. John’s the Baptist Church.
Surviving are two brothers, George Reynolds and his wife, Margaret, of Topsham, and James Reynold and his wife, Louise, of Lisbon Falls; five sisters, her twin sister, Connie Lessard, of Auburn, Barbara Matson and her husband, Austin, of Pembroke Pines Fla., Joan Duquesnoy and her husband, Roger, of Sabattus, Paulette Carville and her husband, James, of Lisbon, and Rosemary Seachrist and her husband, Charles, of Dover, N.H.; she is also survived by three stepchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
