SOUTH PARIS – Jesse Elizabeth Perkins, 89, of Otisfield died at Market Square Healthcare on Thursday, March 8.

She was born in Leeds on Aug. 29, 1917, the daughter of James G. and Ada M. (Jackson) Pettengill and was a graduate of Monmouth Academy. She also attended Bliss Business School in Lewiston and in the early years worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

On April 22, 1946, she married Hadley C. Perkins, who died on Jan. 2, 1991. She was a wonderful cook and baker and was most happy when she was helping others. In the late ’60s and early ’70s, she was a Sunday school teacher at East Otisfield Baptist Church. Coming from a large family, she enjoyed holidays and road trips to their various farms and homes in Central Maine, as well as entertaining friends and family at her home on Thompson Lake.

She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her son, James W., and wife, Pauline, of Otisfield; three granddaughters, Angela C. Perkins of North Yarmouth, Carol Perkins of Wilton and Lynn Perkins and her fiancé, James Lane; a great-grandson, Kaden Lane, of Wilton; sisters, Dorothy Ray of Lewiston, Eleanor Johnson of Auburn and Helen Wotherspoon and her husband, John, of Minot; and a special nephew, Curt Bailey and his wife, Joanne, of Otisfield.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Russell Pettengill and James Pettengill; and sisters, Virginia Pettengill, Marion Fuller, Frances Gile and Beatrice Bubier Jordan.

The family wishes to extend special and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris for more than five years of excellent and loving care to “Mom/Grammie,” as well as the staff of Beacon Hospice in her final weeks.
