FARMINGTON – The SAD 9 music department’s “Music in Our Schools” concert series will open with the Chorus Festival Thursday, March 15. Music performance ensembles from Academy Hill, Cape Cod Hill, Cascade Brook, Weld, Mt. Blue Middle and Mt. Blue High Schools will be represented in the series.

All performances begin at 7 p.m. in the Mt. Blue High School gym.

School choruses for grades 5-12 will perform March 15 under the direction of teachers Andy Buckland, Jane Parker, Jim Perkins and Carol Shumway. Also performing will be the Mt. Blue Middle School Show Choir, the Mt. Blue High School Syncopations and the Mt. Blue Voices.

Mrs. Patricia Hayden will serve as the district piano accompanist.

Monday, March 19, student band musicians in grades 5-12 will put on the Band-A-Rama, with a performance by the Mt. Blue High School Jazz Band.

Concluding the concert series will be the String Celebration Thursday, March 22, under the direction Nancy Beacham and Steven Muise. The concert will feature the string orchestra students in grades 4-12 as well as the Mt. Blue Middle School Fiddlers and the Franklin County Fiddlers.

After each concert, the SAD 9 Music Boosters will sell Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream in the high school cafeteria. Proceeds will go toward scholarships for music students who hope to attend summer music camps or to continue private music lessons in the summer.

All SAD 9 concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, call Carol Shumway at Mt. Blue High School (645-3561). In the event of school cancellations due to inclement weather, Thursday, March 29, will serve as the make-up concert date.
